On May 18th we will be holding an Open House/regular meeting. On this day we invite our Beavers to Bring a Friend to show more young people the benefits of Scouting. Â Our Scout Shop is offering an incentive to members that bring a friend. Each time a Scout brings a friend to a group meeting, the Scout will receive a $5 Scout Shop coupon (redeemable for any Scout Shop purchase, no minimum purchase required). If the friend registers as a new member, he or she will also receive a $5 Scout Shop coupon, while the Scout who brought the friend receives an additional $5 coupon. Please make sure to let your Leaders know who your friend is!

The Bowen Beavers Beach Party is ON!  The weather forecast looks great and I’m sure everyone is ready to go! Tomorrow (April 20th) we’ll meet at Pebbly Beach at 5:30pm and have hot dogs, veggie dogs, chips, juice and we’ll roast some marshmallows too. Dress warm since it will probably cool down at the end of the day, especially by the water. We’re technically done at 6:30pm but will probably be at the beach until around 7pm. Come on out and earn your “Beach Party†badge!  [googlemaps https://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=210243399964930870386.0004a06e79f5573dadb42&ll=49.385991,-123.333185&spn=0,0&output=embed&w=425&h=350]

The Bowen Beavers had a fantastic time at the Edge Climbing Centre in North Vancouver today. We all had a chance to rope climb as well as boulder with the help of our Edge instructors. The Beavers were very brave and climbed to amazing heights! Thanks to everyone that participated, and parents who came along to cheer us on! The Beavers will receive a badge for participating in this event. I’m sure we’ll be back in the future to do it again! I’ve added photos from the trip to our Photo Gallery.

The beach party planned for this Wednesday April 13th will be postponed until next Wednesday April 20th due to a poor weather forecast of wind and rain. This week (April 13th) will be a regular Beavers meeting at BICS as usual from 5:30-6:30pm. Hopefully we’ll have exceptional weather next week for the beach party!

As some of you may know we have been planning a trip to the mainland to go to ‘The Edge’ and do some indoor rock climbing. For those of you who are not familiar with The Edge it is one of Canada’s premier training sites for youth climbers, having trained a number of youth champions for climbing competitions. Additionally, a number of truly world-class outdoor rock climbers started and/or train there, so the focus is on safety and fun, and their staff are highly trained. Safety is always priority number one.  For more info, please visit their website at http://www.edgeclimbing.com/index.cfm. The date has been set for April 16th between 12:30-2:00pm at the Edge Climbing Centre in North Vancouver. We would be leaving as a group on the 11:30 ferry and returning on the 3:30pm ferry home. We will all meet at the library at 11:10am. The cost per child will be $15. The remaining amount has been subsidized by the group. Please send a lunch and snack along with the Beavers (we’ll eat lunch on the ferry on the way over). Please pickup the Beavers at the Library at 3:50pm. We will be traveling by car so any parents wishing to volunteer … Continue Reading →

Hello Everyone! This Wednesday’s April 13th Beavers meeting will be held at Pebbly Beach where we will be having our Beach Party and Hot Dog Roast! We’re crossing our fingers for good weather but just in case my special order of good weather doesn’t arrive as planned, the rain date will be next Wednesday April 20th. Drop off and pick up will be at Pebbly Beach (see map) in Deep Bay. We’re starting at 5:30pm as usual but will probably be hanging around a bit past 6:30pm, perhaps until 7:00pm if anyone wants to stay a bit longer. We’ll be supplying beef hot dogs, veggie dogs, chips, juice and marshmallows. This should be a fun event – please make sure everyone is dressed for the weather. We’ll post any weather related cancellation on the website as well as send out emails if we have to abort. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the beach! View Bowen Beavers Beach Party in a larger map

Hello everyone!A while ago everyone should have received an invitation for the White Tail Busy Beaver Camp being held on the Sunshine Coast June 18-19th (this is for 7 year olds only). I have received further information on the camp and the necessary forms such as the registration form,  the kit list and physical fitness certificate for non-members. Click on these hyperlinks to download the required forms. If your child will be participating, please hand in all necessary forms and payment to me by April 13th. Please note that an adult MUST accompany your youth on this trip and the cost is $55 per person. This has always been a wonderful rite of passage for older Beavers. If you should have any further questions, please feel free to contact myself or Joy Fai at 604-986-9287 or by email at joyfai@telus.net.

The Bowen Beavers had a great time with Scouts Canada planting trees on the North Shore on Saturday. We planted Douglas Firs in the Grouse Woods area and enjoyed hot dogs and goodies (with a little time left over to play at the Horseshoe Bay Park!) Beavers who attended this event will receive a special tree planting badge as well as a “piece” of their North Shore Crest. Rainbow will hand out certificates at the next meeting to Beavers who participated.
