Beaver Buggy Rally

Hello Everyone, It’s Beaver Buggy time again! We will assemble, decorate and do a friendly in-house rally. The track will be set up inside the school. Sebastian Marwick, the North Shore Area Youth Commissioner, will be on hand to help show us how to get the most out of our Buggies. On Saturday Feb 11th is the official Beaver Buggy Rally at Capilano Mall. Details below. Please organize amongst yourselves if you will be attending the Rally. This is a big deal for most groups. Pictures from last year’s Beaver Buggy Event can be seen here. It is also Bring a Friend night. If you bring a friend please make sure you tell Leslie so she can let Scout House know in order for you to receive your $5 Scout House Coupon.

This is a reminder email to parents, and Cubs, that the Cubs should finish painting and decorating their cars to their preference. Please bring them back next Wednesday, of course as we will be doing an in house rally. There is a Kub Kar Rally being held at Capliano Mall on Feb 11. We’ll provide more details soon!

Beach Party Postponed

The beach party planned for this Wednesday April 13th will be postponed until next Wednesday April 20th due to a poor weather forecast of wind and rain. This week (April 13th) will be a regular Beavers meeting at BICS as usual from 5:30-6:30pm.  Hopefully we’ll have exceptional weather next week for the beach party!

The Edge Climbing Centre Outing

As some of you may know we have been planning a trip to the mainland to go to ‘The Edge’ and do some indoor rock climbing. For those of you who are not familiar with The Edge it is one of Canada’s premier training sites for youth climbers, having trained a number of youth champions for climbing competitions.  Additionally, a number of truly world-class outdoor rock climbers started and/or train there, so the focus is on safety and fun, and their staff are highly trained.  Safety is always priority number one.  For more info, please visit their website at http://www.edgeclimbing.com/index.cfm. The date has been set for April 16th between 12:30-2:00pm at the Edge Climbing Centre in North Vancouver. We would be leaving as a group on the 11:30 ferry and returning on the 3:30pm ferry home. We will all meet at the library at 11:10am. The cost per child will be $15. The remaining amount has been subsidized by the group. Please send a lunch and snack along with the Beavers (we’ll eat lunch on the ferry on the way over).  Please pickup the Beavers at the Library at 3:50pm. We will be traveling by car so any parents wishing to volunteer … Continue Reading →

Beach Party and Hot Dog Roast This Wednesday!

Hello Everyone!  This Wednesday’s April 13th Beavers meeting will be held at Pebbly Beach where we will be having our Beach Party and Hot Dog Roast!  We’re crossing our fingers for good weather but just in case my special order of good weather doesn’t arrive as planned, the rain date will be next Wednesday April 20th. Drop off and pick up will be at Pebbly Beach (see map) in Deep Bay.  We’re starting at 5:30pm as usual but will probably be hanging around a bit past 6:30pm, perhaps until 7:00pm if anyone wants to stay a bit longer.  We’ll be supplying beef hot dogs, veggie dogs, chips, juice and marshmallows. This should be a fun event – please make sure everyone is dressed for the weather.  We’ll post any weather related cancellation on the website as well as send out emails if we have to abort. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the beach! View Bowen Beavers Beach Party in a larger map

White Tail Busy Beaver Camp Info

Hello everyone!A while ago everyone should have received an invitation for the White Tail Busy Beaver Camp being held on the Sunshine Coast June 18-19th (this is for 7 year olds only). I have received further information on the camp and the necessary forms such as the registration form,  the kit list and physical fitness certificate for non-members.  Click on these hyperlinks to download the required forms. If your child will be participating, please hand in all necessary forms and payment to me by April 13th. Please note that an adult MUST accompany your youth on this trip and the cost is $55 per person. This has always been a wonderful rite of passage for older Beavers. If you should have any further questions, please feel free to contact myself or Joy Fai at 604-986-9287 or by email at joyfai@telus.net.

Bowen Beavers Have Fun Helping The Environment

The Bowen Beavers had a great time with Scouts Canada planting trees on the North Shore on Saturday. We planted Douglas Firs in the Grouse Woods area and enjoyed hot dogs and goodies (with a little time left over to play at the Horseshoe Bay Park!) Beavers who attended this event will receive a special tree planting badge as well as a “piece” of their North Shore Crest.  Rainbow will hand out certificates at the next meeting to Beavers who participated.

Scoutrees location confirmed

Scouts Canada has confirmed our tree planting location for this Saturday’s Scoutrees event!  This year we will be planting in the Grouse Woods area of North Vancouver (Malaspina Place). – see map below. As mentioned in our previous post we would like to go over as a group if possible, however if you need to meet us on site or would just like to know where on earth we’re going – directions are: To get there – go up Capilano Road which becomes Nancy Greene Way – then right on Prospect Ave. – first left here onto Cliffridge Drive (street sign may indicate Sonora Dr.)  Go almost to the end of Cliffridge and turn left onto Molina Road.  Find parking from here on.   Malaspina Place is a right turn off Molina.   We will meet at the very end of Malaspina Place. We hope everyone can make it out to support such an important cause!
